Owens Corning sells its shingles to any roofer, but it reserves its best warranties for contractors in its own network. The Owens Corning Roofing Contractor Network has three tiers: Contractor Rewards, which is open enrollment; Preferred Contractor; and Platinum Preferred Contractor. The two upper tiers are by invitation from Owens Corning, and Platinum Preferred is the highest. When Westchester Roof Pros books your roof, it's installed by Jersey Roofing, an Owens Corning Platinum Preferred contractor.
What Platinum Preferred requires
- An invitation from Owens Corning, after review by its local sales team.
- At least three years in the roofing industry. Preferred requires two.
- At least $1 million in liability insurance, plus workers' compensation and licensing as the state requires.
Owens Corning doesn't publish a percentage of contractors who hold Platinum Preferred status, so you won't see us quote one. What matters for your home is simpler: only Platinum Preferred contractors can register Platinum Protection, Owens Corning's only warranty with lifetime workmanship coverage.
Owens Corning warranties, side by side
| Owens Corning warranty | Who can register it | Non-prorated materials (TRU PROtection®) | Workmanship |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard Product Limited Warranty | Any installer | 10 years | Not covered |
| System Protection | Preferred or Platinum Preferred | 50 years | Not covered |

| Platinum Protection | Platinum Preferred only | 50 years | Lifetime; first 25 years non-prorated, including tear-off and disposal |
For Duration®, Oakridge®, Woodcrest® and Woodmoor® shingles on a single-family detached home, per Owens Corning's warranty documents dated August 2026. Materials coverage is a limited lifetime warranty for as long as you own the home; the table shows the non-prorated period. The written warranty controls.
What Platinum Protection requires
Platinum Protection covers a complete Owens Corning roofing system, not just shingles. Owens Corning's current warranty requires:
- Owens Corning shingles
- Owens Corning synthetic underlayment
- Owens Corning hip and ridge shingles
- At least two of these three: Owens Corning ice and water barrier, starter shingles, and VentSure® ventilation
- Installation over a ventilated roof deck, by a Platinum Preferred contractor
We recommend all three optional components. In Westchester the ice and water barrier is required by code at the eaves, and Owens Corning starter shingles are needed for Duration's 160 mph wind rating.
Registration and transfer
- Jersey Roofing registers the warranty within 60 days of installation. Ask for the confirmation.
- It can be transferred once. The new owner applies within 60 days of the sale, and Owens Corning charges a $100 transfer fee.
- If the home is sold more than 20 years after installation, the Platinum Protection workmanship coverage ends at transfer.
Wind and algae ratings that matter here
Nor'easters and tropical storms bring damaging wind to Westchester. Tropical Storm Isaias in 2020 produced gusts of about 65 mph and cut power to more than 200,000 customers in the county. The Owens Corning shingle you choose, and how it's installed, decides its wind warranty:
- Duration®: 130 mph as standard, and 160 mph with Owens Corning starter shingles at the eaves and rakes and qualifying Owens Corning hip and ridge shingles. Wind coverage runs 15 years.
- Oakridge®: 110 mph with four nails, or 130 mph with six nails and Owens Corning starter at the eaves and rakes.
- Duration FLEX® and Duration STORM®: UL 2218 Class 4 impact ratings, for homeowners who want the toughest shingle or an insurance discount where their carrier offers one.
For algae, Owens Corning covers the black streaking caused by Gloeocapsa magma for 25 years when a qualifying Owens Corning hip and ridge product is installed, and 10 years without one. On wooded lots and north-facing slopes that's a meaningful difference.
What the warranties exclude
Owens Corning's warranties exclude damage caused by improper or inadequate roof ventilation, unvented attics and enclosed rafter assemblies. A certified installer still has to get the ventilation right. See our guide to attic ventilation.
